According to the International Energy Agency, energy efficiency is the biggest and often largely untapped energy resource in the world.
In the face of rising energy demand and a need to limit greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency has become a pillar of the global development goals. However, a major issue is that energy efficiency is largely invisible because it represents energy NOT used. Public and private stakeholders don’t always understand the value of energy efficiency and instead focus on investments in energy generation.
Recognizing the importance of energy efficiency represents a paradigm shift, since both the supply and the demand side are equally taken into consideration. In this scenario energy efficiency is then no longer measured and valued as “energy not used” but becomes an important contributor to the overall national energy mix.
